If your child has his or her heart set on popular cartoon character décor throughout, you’ll have to either be willing to pay a hefty price or be willing to get creative.

With a kindhearted spirit and a bit of ingenuity, you can reach a compromise that won’t break your budget and will make your child happy. The window treatments is a great place to start the negotiating process.

It is your child’s bedroom and you want him or her to be happy but you also want to be able to accomplish that in an affordable way. This is especially true if your child’s favorite cartoon character changes regularly.

Creating window treatments isn’t complicated. There are various ways to achieve the look your child wants.

Consider using solid colored fabrics and decorating them yourself.

Your child can choose the color and the two of you can decorate it. These ideas are very easy...

  • Boys window treatments for kids rooms ideas.

  • Iron-on cars, dinosaurs, insects, frogs or other favorites.

If you have a cornice in your window treatments equation, you easily decorate it to match. Use a fabric cutout that your child chooses.

You can either sew or use fabric glue to attach it to the fabric you’ll be using to cover the cornice. Using a large cutout on the cornice really adds to the theme of the room.

  • Girls window treatments.

  • Iron-on ballerinas, dolls, fairies, mermaids or other favorites.

Another creative idea for use in a girl’s room is attaching silk flowers to solid fabrics for decoration. You can also attach lightweight plastic hearts or x’s and o’s to create unique window treatments that little girls will enjoy. Use both pink and red hearts and x’s and o’s on solid white fabric to create a bold look.

Fabric stamping lets you create distinctive window treatments. It works particularly well if you use sheer fabrics.

Once you have the stamp and the color pads you will be using, let your child work on this project with you. You’ll get to spend time with your child while allowing him or her to feel good about being able to be an active participant in the decorating project.

An often-overlooked component of the window treatments for children's rooms is the curtain rod. The rod itself also provides an opportunity for creativity. You can paint it to match or contract with your curtains.

Wrapping the curtain rod in fabric or in ribbon also creates an attractive addition. You can attach objects such as some of the ones mentioned here like flowers. Butterflies or bumblebees are also easily attached to the ends of the curtain rod.

Shades can also be decorated to personalize window treatments. They can be purchased inexpensively at most discount stores. Simply stick decals on the shades that match the rest of your décor.

Adhesive stars and moons look great when the shade is down for the night. You can even paint your own design on a window shade or better yet...let your child create a masterpiece for the shade.

End of the summer season sales can offer a bargain shopper’s treasure in window treatments. Beach towel manufacturers always offer towels featuring cartoon characters. Just in time for your back-to-school shopping trip, they will be on sale. Buy two, stick a hem in them and hang them.
