Teen Decorating - How To Create The Ideal Bedroom Sanctuary
When it comes to teen decorating there is much to think about as far as their bedroom is concerned.
The reason being is before your child developed into a teenager, you needed to create space to allow them safe playing room amongst their furniture, but now that your child believes that he or she "is all grown up", their bedroom is no
longer their playground, it is their sanctuary.
Due to the fact that teens crave privacy, and will spend a great deal of time hibernating in their room, it is important that you provide for them furniture that will make them comfortable, and the freedom to decorate their room as they please (as long as you approve of their teen decorating choices of course).
The major difference between teen decorating and decorating for children is that teens want to choose how their
bedroom looks, and want you to have as little to do with their bedroom choices as possible.
This will certainly take some getting used to, but it is important that you provide your teen with the space they need to make their own decisions and grow.
To give you an idea of what to expect, know that most teen decorating is chosen for how it makes the teen feel, instead of how it looks.
Teenagers make an effort to defy logic and order, and want to be recognized as individuals, by using what most interests them to express themselves, and to turn to these things when they need relief, and wish to be alone.
Therefore, although you may not always understand or agree with their teen decorating choices, it is best to let
them mature and grow in an environment that gives them solace and comfort.
Possible teen decorating choices that your teen may favor include:
- Vibrant paint colours for the walls
- Fuzzy chairs
- Area rugs
- Daybeds
- Beds with Trundles
- Whacky shaped objects (lamps, clocks ect.)
- Posters
- Pictures of family and friends
- Bookshelves
- Mirrors
It is also common for teen decorating to include certain themes. Some of the more popular themes tend to be:
- Nature - wildlife, trees, plants, etc.
- Entertainment - music, movies, etc.
- Sports - baseball, football, hockey, etc.
Something else you will want to take into account when thinking about teen decorating is that studying is now going to play an important role in their lives. That being the case, if your teen does not have a computer in his or her room, you may want to seriously consider purchasing them one, because the vast majority of teens prefer studying and doing homework in their room compared to anywhere else.
In addition, multifunction furniture such as stacking crates and bins are a great way for your teen to store all of their items, instead of having them littered all over the room.
Ultimately, although teen decorating may cause you moments of cringing, it is something that your child will enjoy,
and is important to them.
