Nursery Decorating Ideas - How to Avoid Breaking the Bank!

A new baby is on the way and you're chock full of nursery decorating ideas. If you are like most people these days then your ideas are much bigger than your budget.

That doesn't have to be a problem, just follow these budget-conscious tips and you can have a champagne room on a beer budget!

You are a lot picker than you baby is.

Your baby isn't going to be mad at you if you don't shop at the most expensive stores in town. Your nursery decorating ideas don't have to take you broke. After all, it's not the price that matters, it's the quality.

Let's start looking.

Garage sales and thrift stores are outstanding sources for baby items. I've raised four children and I can tell you this: The only time that they had a new stick of furniture in their room was if someone bought it for us as a present. Other than that, I raised garage sale and thrift store kids. My nursery decorating ideas never included going broke.

You can turn nearly every one of your nursery decorating ideas into dreams come true, on a budget, if you start shopping early. Since you've got 9 months, more or less, to get all of your shopping done, don't wait for the last minute.

I guarantee you that you can find every single thing that you want, in the exact shape, color, size, and brand, if you start visiting garage sales, flea markets, and thrift stores as soon as you know that you are pregnant.

What can you find?

Anything, everything, and things you didn't even imagine. We got a brand name baby monitor for $2.00, a really nice wooden crib for $15 (we threw the mattress out and bought a new one), a combination changing table/dresser for $9.00, a "Winnie-the-Pooh" throw rug for a dollar, and an "Eyore" lamp for $5, and an $8 rocking chair for Mom. Total cost: $39. How's that for fulfilling your nursery decorating ideas on a budget!

Be picky, you can afford to!

When we furnished our $39 nursery, we didn't settle for junk or mismatched pieces. Our nursery decorating ideas didn't include the grunge look. We wanted the best for our baby, we just didn't want to pay for it. We carefully selected each piece and made sure that it either matched or complemented the others.

Take your time and look until you find exactly what you want. We had written down all of our nursery decorating ideas in a little spiral notebook that we carried with us whenever we went shopping. We'd refer to it to make sure that whatever we were buying was the right color or size to fit in the nursery. That way we never ended up with something that we couldn't use.

And if you need an inexpensive way to pull your baby room theme together, use posters. You'll find a great selection by clicking here.

One more thing to keep in mind.

Remember, you're working with nursery decorating ideas, not rules. If you come across something that you just have to have, and it's not on your idea list, get it anyway. I'm sure that you'll find somewhere to put it.

I hope these nursery decorating ideas have been helpful.
