Medieval Decor - Go Back In Time And Experience The Middle Ages
When creating medieval themes, you first need to understand that authentic medieval decor can be quite pricey, as the vast majority of the items from that time period are hand crafted or hand made.
Therefore, if you are on a tight budget, you will really need to hunt around for the best buys if you wish to achieve that perfect look.
The following are some examples and ideas of some authentic styles of medieval decor you could use to create a medieval theme for your child’s room:
Themes - To narrow down the type of medieval decor you will need in order to create the perfect room for your child, you will first need to decide on a theme. For instance, is your child interested in knights and armor, or an enchanted forest filled with magical creatures such as dragons, elves and fairies?
Furniture - When selecting furniture for a room fashioned in medieval decor, the best type of furniture is that made of solid wood. Popular furniture pieces are 4 poster beds with curtains, or a canopy bed, chest, wardrobes, bookshelves, and dressers.
Walls - As for the walls in the room, you may wish to either use wallpaper or paint. You could select really neat wallpaper that has a stone design, or use mixes of gray paint and do a sponge paint design that resembles stone, or take the time to make a mural of stones that looks like a castle wall.
If, however, your child is more interested in the medieval decor that is more fantastical, you could always paint an
enchanted forest mural with elves, fairies, wizards or dragons. You could even construct a wall mural of popular medieval icons like King Arthur and his knights of the round table, or maybe even a battle scene.
Floors - The best floors for medieval decor are hardwood floors. However, you can also use brown or gray
carpet to keep up with the authentic look if wood floors are not an option.
Accessories - the accessories linked with medieval decor are usually various sized pewter statues or figurines of dragons, gargoyles, fairies, wizards, etc. Other popular items are incense burners, candle holders, themed lamps, such as those shaped like candelabras, trinket boxes, a throne-like chair, intricately designed area rugs, etc.
Art - wall art associated with medieval decor include tapestries, paintings with scenes from the Middle Ages,
enchanted creatures, stain glass art work, candle holders, wood carvings, display weaponry such as daggers, swords, bow and arrow, staff, mace, flail etc.
Bedding - authentic bedding for medieval decor is often intricately woven blankets, tapestries or quilts. Keep in mind that the above ideas are based on authentic medieval décor items, and are not the only decorations you can purchase to create a medieval themed room.
Brainstorm ideas with your child, and figure out how you can create a personal medieval style that will suit their tastes, and not cause you to have to take out a small loan. And above all, don’t forget to have fun.
