Simple Themes: Kids Rooms Ideas
Some may find difficulty in thinking up kids rooms ideas. If you happen to be one of those people, don't worry too much. You are certainly not alone.
Many parents may trip over kids rooms ideas, especially if they are expecting their first child and have no experience to draw upon.
It is only natural so don't fancy yourself in too much trouble. Instead, focus on the positives: you get to play with themes and color like never before; you get to build a room that lacks the necessary grown-up sophistication of the rest of your home; you get to give your expected child something special.
Feeling better yet?
We know that decorating kids rooms can seem overwhelming or even impossible. And that can be true, if you let it. Here, we offer a few kids rooms ideas that will show you just how fun (and easy) decorating can be.
Theme One: Safari
Boys or girls will love this adventure theme, and it can last you a few years without the worry of them getting tired of it too fast.
To begin, give the walls a basic blue or tan coat of paint (depending if you want to go with a skyline as a background, or a desert).
Animal borders and wallpapers are available (and these run from the very young and cute to the more adult, making the room age well). Consider animal print bedding or, for a touch of elegance, a canopy bed.
Utilize stuffed toys. After all, this is a child's room. You can have toys as more than just playthings. They can be decorations.
Theme Two: Fairy Tale
While we tend not to recommend limited kids rooms ideas, this one has the chance to surpass its seemingly short lifetime. If you are expecting a girl, then you can consider the fairy tale approach.
Find wallpaper that looks like stone to create the image of being inside a castle. Stick on murals can add a 3-D effect of knights, dragons, or even just a window looking over into another world.
For the bed, a canopy would do well, or just a richer fabric for the bedding. Consider wrapping vines along the bedposts for extra touches of fun. Furniture can be more adult, allowing the pieces to grow with her.
And you can easily find fairy tale accessories to spread about the room (rugs with medieval pictures, a mobile-chandelier composed of fairy pictures, etc.).
Theme Three: Cars
For boys, there are few kids rooms ideas that work better than cars. And this does not just mean Nascar. You can take a slightly more adult approach, making a transition from child to preteen a little less complicated.
The walls can be any color, but be sure to provide plenty of shelves for displays of model cars and truck figures. Consider using decorations like old license plates or signs to capture the automotive feel.
For bedding, a solid color would be best, with the emphasis being on the walls and accessories instead.
Kids rooms ideas are not difficult, if you just think in broader terms. Try not to get yourself strapped to limited themes (like Precious Moments or Winnie the Pooh). Instead, try to find ideas that will last a few years and give your children the joy they deserve.
