kid Craft Idea - Art Display Board
(This kid craft idea is suitable for all ages.)
When your child creates a drawing or painting, they can use this kid craft idea to give their art a place to hang in their room.
Just like professional artists need a gallery in which to hang their pieces, your young artist needs a place of honor to show off their own creations. This kid craft project gives them that special place for their art.
What you'll need to make this craft idea:
- Wooden board about 1 ˝ to 2 inches wide (The length can be from 6 inches on up and
really depends on how much space is on the child's wall to dedicate to this display
board.)
- Sandpaper
- Paint
- Hinged clothespins
- Stickers and other small items for decorations
- First, sand the board with a fine grit sandpaper to make sure there aren't any splinters that may come off during handling. The last thing you want is for a kid craft idea to cause you or your child to need first aid! Use a dry cloth to dust any remaining sawdust from the board.
- Next, for this kid craft idea paint the board with any color or colors you choose. For this entire project, using a non-oil based paint makes for faster drying and easier clean up.
- While the board dries, paint the clothespins. Use as many clothespins as you want for hanging your child's art. If you aren't sure how many you will want to use at this point, paint extra clothespins so you'll have plenty of them dry and ready to go when you decide how many you need.
For our kid craft idea we used three clothespins for a one-foot board. The best way to get full coverage of paint is to take the clothespins apart before painting them. Try one first, and if it is too difficult to get back together go ahead and paint them each as one piece.
Any paint that dries in the hinge area will break off later. If you do take the clothespins apart before painting, be sure and let the paint dry thoroughly before putting the painted clothespins back together.
- Once all of the pieces are dry, glue the clothespins onto the board. Glue them all with the clamp end of the clothespins down. Lay the board flat while the glue dries.
- Now it is time to decorate your kid craft idea using small items to go around and between the clothespins. You can use stickers or paint pens to write letters on the board.
You can also glue on small beads or other artistic decorations. There are numerous items you can use to spice up the look of this kid craft idea, and a quick trip down any craft store aisle should spark plenty of ideas.
Once you are finished, your child will have a fun, decorative place to display his or her art. You can make one of these for any room in your house, or make extra long ones to display children's art in classrooms.
I hope this kid craft idea has been helpful.
