Free Crafts - Bulletin Board

(This free crafts project is suitable for all ages.)

You can turn this craft idea into a fun decorating project for your child's room.

Using corks and a piece of wood, this free craft gives your child a place to hang pictures, homework assignments, or anything else they wish to post in their room.

This kids craft project also makes a great recycling project. You can use corks left over from wine bottles or any other bottles you use around the house that have corks (some of the fancier vinegars use corks in their bottles.)

If you don't have any used corks around the house, you can buy new ones at most hardware or craft stores or order them from various websites.

To make this free craft project, you'll need:

  • A piece of wood about 1˝ inches or 2 inches wide, any length you want to use
  • Corks
  • Fine grit sandpaper
  • Paint
  • Picture hanging hardware
  • Glue

This free craft project can be made with as many corks as you want to put on it. The bulletin board pictured puts the corks in a line right next to each other, but if you want to you can space them out across the length of the board.

If you put them right next to each other, it does give the corks a little more support and makes them less likely to snap off the board. However, if you space them out just make sure you use a strong enough glue to keep them on.

To do this free craft:

  1. Sand your piece of wood with a fine sandpaper to make sure there aren't any splinters that will come off while you are handling the wood. When you are finished sanding, wipe the sawdust off the board with a dry rag or paper towel.

  2. Paint your piece of wood on all sides except the backside of this free craft project. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly before gluing the corks on. You can paint your board all one color, or paint fun designs on the board. You can even incorporate your corks into the design.

  3. Once the piece of wood is dry, glue each of your corks onto the board. You can turn the corks any way you want, even gluing them diagonally. Allow the glue to dry completely.

  4. After the corks are in place, you can add stickers or any other decorations to the spaces around or in between the corks for this free craft project.

  5. When you are finished with the decorations, attach the picture hanger hardware to the back of the board using the directions for your hardware. If you can't find picture hanger hardware to fit, you can drill a hole through the board at both ends of the board face and use two nails or screws to firmly attach the board to your child's wall.

Once you are finished, you will have a unique bulletin board for your child to use.

I hope you find this free craft idea to be helpful.
