To make this free craft idea you'll need:

Eight 1 ½" x 24" wooden boards (you can purchase hobby wood at most craft or hardware stores)
Craft glue
Paint
Beads, stickers, or other small decorations
Photos you can cut to size
Small nails

Follow these steps for this free craft idea:

Lightly sand the boards to get rid of loose wood that may splinter as you work with it. If you want to paint each board a different color, now is the time to paint them. Otherwise, until the frame is put together.
Lay four boards vertically beside one another. Then lay the four remaining boards horizontally over the others to form nine square openings between the boards. Move the boards around to form different angles in the openings.
Try to keep the top horizontal board as straight as possible to make hanging the frame easier. Remember that this free craft idea creates a multiple picture frame and you'll be putting various pictures in the openings. This means you don't want to make the shapes too difficult to fit the pictures in.
Once you've decided on the design, lay out the pictures to see which one will go in each opening. Adjust your design as necessary and mark your pictures for trimming.
Use the craft glue to attach the horizontal sticks to the vertical ones. Let the glue dry completely while the frame lays flat.
Once the glue is dry, it's time to paint the frame if you haven't done so already. Spray paint works well on this free craft idea.
Brushing the paint on works also, and this method may be more useful if you are painting multiple colors. Once the frame is painted, let it set for a few hours to make sure all of the paint is dry before handling the frame.
Trim your pictures to fit the frame you have made using this free craft idea. Use a small amount of glue to adhere the pictures to the back of the frame.
After you have the pictures on, take small nails or brads and lightly hammer them on your frame at the places where your boards meet. Be sure to hammer lightly so you don't split the boards.
You can also take a sharp instrument such as an awl or an electric screwdriver with a small drill bit to start the hole where you will put the nail. This will help prevent the boards from splitting as well.
