Creating A Princess Bedroom For Your Little Princess

by Sacha Megan

If you have a precious little girl in your family, you are probably very familiar with all things pink. For decades, the feminine color of pink has been used to signify the arrival or presence of darling baby girls. And it doesn’t stop there! Shades of pink follow little girls throughout their toddler years, into their elementary school classrooms and sometimes even into their first college dorm room!

If your daughter has a large bedroom, consider utilizing the space as both a bedroom and a playroom fit for a princess! This method is especially helpful in homes where there isn’t extra space for playrooms. By using rooms for duel purposes, you can accomplish more out of less space – something every parent is sure to love!

Begin by surveying the room and noticing placements of windows, doors, etc. Then, think about the elements you want to add to the room such as furniture or play toys. In some cases, certain pieces of furniture or toys that are shaped a particular way may only fit into one or two parts of the room. By starting with your largest pieces first and determining where they should be placed in a room, you will find it far easier to organize the layout of the bedroom.

An easy place to begin is with the bed, which is often the largest piece of furniture in a bedroom. First, evaluate the type of bed you have for your daughter and ask yourself if it is the best fit for her. Is she past the age of sleeping in a toddler bed? It may be time to consider investing in a twin bed. Does your daughter enjoy having friends over to spend the night? Consider placing double beds in the room or choosing a large bed that will be suitable for her and her favorite sleepover friends! If your budget does not allow for the purchase of a new bed, consider adding elements to her current bed that might make it even more appealing to her. Does it lack a headboard? Look up designs online and construct one out of wood and fabric that will give her a soft but firm place to rest while she reads her favorite book before bed.

Other essential pieces of furniture in your daughter’s bedroom will likely depend on her age. If your daughter is still in the diapers stage, you will likely need a dresser for her clothes as well as a changing table. To save space and money, consider using the top of the dresser – especially if it is at an appropriate height – as a makeshift changing table! To organize diapers, wipes and other changing table essentials, use decorative baskets to hold the materials and keep them from cluttering up the top of your dresser. If you have a baby or toddler living in this bedroom, you may also find that you need a rocking chair to use at both naptime and bedtime.

Sacha loves to decorate girls rooms and suggests if you don’t have fitted carpets, use floor area rugs, especially pink rugs, to add a feeling of luxury to the wood flooring!
