Clocks for Kids

by KR&C Staff

Clocks for kids are a great way to complement the décor of a child’s room while simultaneously teaching him or her how to tell time. Both wall models and those meant for tabletops have come a long way over the last few decades so that they provide form instead of just function.

There are clocks for kids that come in virtually every shape, color, and size, ranging from more classic and traditional, to highly unique designs. Some of the more recent innovations even come with a neon and plasma display. Clocks for kids that are LED can change color throughout the day. Some clocks for kids offer a projection using a laser, which can offer an interesting effect.

Many clocks for kids are available in different styles and with different features, but still have a low price tag, which makes lots of options available to you, no matter your budget. In fact, some are inexpensive enough that you can buy them for special occasions, such as Christmas, Valentine’s day, or Halloween designs.

One of the benefits of clocks for kids is that they are designed for people who are just learning to be able to tell time. Some include little reminders as to how to read the time, for example, including a subtle number thirty near the position of the six on the clock face, to remind the child that this is the position of the half hour.

Clocks for kids are also often specially made so that they are highly durable. This often proves to be very useful in a child’s bedroom, since this is an area where accidents can happen, such as unintentionally knocking the piece off its table, or slamming another item into its face. When games get a little wild, even a timepiece hanging from the wall can get bumped and come crashing down.

In these situations, a little durability goes a long way. This being said, make sure that any clocks for kids that are hanging from the wall are not heavy, hard or sharp. Should it fall, you want to make sure that it will not dangerously strike your child, or break into pieces that could cause cuts. The safety level of the item should always remain at the top of the priority list, even above its propriety for the décor of the room.

Make sure that when you choose clocks for kids, if they are the old fashioned style that have a face and hands and not the digital type with the number display. Studies are showing that children who grow up reading digital displays before traditional time pieces will have a greater struggle when they do have to learn to read the time on a standard face with hands. The digital displays on clocks for kids are too addictive for the mind and change the way the child thinks of telling time.
