Creating Boys Rooms That Work
For those of you who are dreading the idea of decorating your boys rooms, take heart. We have good news: it is easier than you think.
Unless you limit yourself with a theme that is only specific to a young age, boys room tend to last longer with the decor. This is, in part, because sons tend to be less demanding when it comes to their rooms and also because the themes offered tend to move into older ages.
This is not to say, of course, that your sons will not want any part of their rooms. They will have opinions. In most cases, though, you will be left with a theme that will last years, rather than just a short time.
All of those who were holding their breath, dreading the time to decorate, relax. This isn't so bad. Themes can last longer, especially when you combine them with basic common sense (like using adult pieces, rather than the typical miniature furniture).
This does not mean, however, that your boys rooms should just consist of some blue paint and adult furniture. You are going to need to put some effort into your project.
You want something special, after all. It is just a matter of understanding that special does not require change every year,
and bigger and better themes with each boys room renovation.
All it requires is a little careful planning on your part and an understanding of what themes will carry your boys room decorating for longer periods of time.
For most boys rooms, sports theme decorating is ideal. They can grow up watching their favorite players and this tends to last longer.
And, since this is a theme that can easily be created, you will not find yourself struggling to get proper decor. Posters, sports memorabilia, even your sons own trophies can easily be supplied.
And, if you are the type that thinks you have to carry the theme to an extremist level by getting something "unique" like a
bed shaped like a race car, think again. While these items may be creative in your boys rooms, they may also be the first to go. Older boys may not mind posters but they may have definite thoughts about unusual beds.
If your sons are not interested in sports for their boys rooms, though, you can try other themes. Consider something like incorporating their favorite comic character or action figure.
While these themes can seem like a bad idea at first glance, they actually have more staying power than you'd think. Boys play, and you can create a room that reflects their favorite
heroes.
And, since you will go ahead and buy adult furniture, all you really need are ways to cover it--such as bed sheets, pillow cases, etc. These can be easily found and easily replaced when your sons want something new.
While this boys rooms theme may not have quite as much longevity, it still is easily changed.
Think in long-term ideas for your decorations or, at least, in simple ones. If you cannot create a theme that will last for years, then you can at least create one that can be changed without having to cost a fortune.
