Baby Room Decor - From Basic to Beyond

The general attitude about baby room decor has changed drastically in the past fifteen years. More couples marry after the age of 30 and often wait several more years before having children. When these couples do decide to begin a family, they quite often choose to have only one child.

With this being an increasing trend, many couples view their baby room decor as a one-shot deal. They know that they will not be having additional children for whom they can correct any decorating oversights or mistakes. Bearing this in mind, these couples spare no expense.

The styles for decorating baby nurseries range from simple to elaborate. Either way, decorating them in a style fit for any little prince or tiny princess can be an expensive project sometimes costing as much as redecorating several rooms.

There are standard basics in accommodations that can be found in almost all baby room decor. Some are handed down from generation to generation, some are purchased at second-hand stores, and perhaps some of the best ones are received as gifts.

Basic necessities for baby room decor.

Crib - of course there’s always a crib. Some are made from wood, some from metal, there are even cribs made from high-quality acrylic materials.

Changing Table - for changing baby’s diaper, naturally. Most changing tables are basically designed the same. The top surface is flat with two or three shelves below for storing diapers and other items.

Dresser - for storing baby’s tiny outfits. Baby furniture such as a dresser or chest-of-drawers is generally smaller in size than standard furnishings. The physical dimensions of the furniture itself create a cozy feeling within baby nurseries.

In all honestly, these are the only pieces of furniture you truly need to accommodate baby’s arrival. Add a comfortable rocking chair and some baby toys and you’re all set.

Other than these items, just hang cute posters like these (click here) to pull your theme together.

But if palatial is what you have in mind for baby bedrooms the sky is the limit or least your maximum line of credit. Just remember that the more you add to your baby’s room the bigger that room will have to be in size and the less room you will have to move around comfortably.

Beyond basic necessities for baby room decor.

Desk and Chairs - baby can’t sit up yet, this can wait.

Storage Bench - baby doesn’t own that much yet, hold off on it.

Vanity with Stool - isn’t baby too young for makeup?

Wooden Easel - he’s got to be able to reach it doesn’t he?

Dollhouse - save it until she’s older.

By now, you’ve got the idea. Why spend your hard-earned money on baby room decor with so many baby impractical furnishings? Wouldn’t that money be better spent on things your baby can actually use or at least from which he or she can benefit?

There truly are ideas for decorating baby bedrooms that will directly benefit your child. Consider a musical mobile to hang over the crib.

Not only does it add a sense of whimsical style to baby’s décor, but it also encourages eye development and strengthens vision. It also fine-tunes his hearing as he or she listens to its soothing musical lullaby.

Also take the time to consider practicality in baby room decor. Does it really make sense for you to hire a professional to come in and create a mural for baby’s wall?

You’ve always been pretty creative, haven’t you? Draw or paint a mural yourself. Your child will love hearing you tell the story of how you were thinking about him or her while you created an original mural especially for the nursery.
